Windows 7: “No Internet Access” with Yellow Warning Icon
A number of users have reported an issue in which Windows 7 displays a message indicating that there is “no Internet Access,” accompanied by a yellow exclamation point warning sign, despite the fact that Internet access works properly in all applications.
Fixes
Disable link scanning in antivirus/malware software The number one cause of this issue is problematic link scanning functions in various antivirus/malware software packages. Try disabling any link scanning components, then restart and check for Internet access.
For example, you can disable AVG’s link scanner by clicking on the AVG icon in the task bar (lower-right hand corner) then selecting “Link Scanner” and unchecking the “Enable AVG Search-Shield” box.
Look for a similar Web “link scanner” or “web shield” component in your antivirus/malware package and temporarily disable it, then restart your computer and check to see if the problem still exists.
Disable then re-enable antivirus software In other cases, simply disabling then re-enabling antivirus software can resolve this issue.

Comments on Windows 7: “No Internet Access” with Yellow Warning Icon
It seems Windows 7 is plagued with internet connectivity issues. I too suffer from having to restart windows with no internet then uninstalling the network card and using the scan for changes button so that it re installs the driver automatically. One idea that may be the culprit is the disk doctor that’s imbeded in windows. I’m not sure how to remove it and why windows has to have it seeded into the system. Anti-Virus programs use the same update and scan feature. disabling automatic scan seems to help some but not very many. I did install adobe cs3 and after-wards the update box came up and did its update, restarted windows and no more internet. Back to reinstalling the network card works everytime. It could also be that windows 7 can not handle the lamens network sharing for dummy’s. Considering the relase date is only a month away I sure hope they fix this. Why doesn’t Microsoft have a solution. we all tend to use the same 4 or 5 variations of network cards.
Wow Jason… you’re so far off base there with your thinking. Microsoft does not control the anti-virus makers. “Disk doctor” doesn’t exist and even if it did, it wouldn’t be touching the nic settings. Meanwhile, CS3 is made by Adobe, which is one of the worst software producers in the world…
I am behind an ISA proxy server, and I think that is why Windows 7 thinks there is no internet.
The idea seems to be good. But not working for me.I hav KIS 2010 fully activated. So help me i can access my internet.always there is yellow exclamation sign.sometime goes away but reoccurs again upon restart.
Can I point out that
I have no AVG installed, no anti-virus (i’m clued up enough not to need it for what I do on the net) and no anti spyware
but I have this issue?
Well this carp WIn7 is acting up with some programs disabling the Network Adapter… but the easier “temporary” fix is not to UNINSTALL the Network Adapter but to just “DISABLE”, it and then RE-ENABLE it… this bring the internet back… at least until re-boot.
The other non-solution fix is to uninstall the program the caused the problem in the first place… in my case: Dreamweaver CS3, Acrobat 7, and Suitcase Fusion 2 (font manager)… this really sucks but it works until there is a real permanent fix.
Hear hear… glad to see I’m not the only person who thinks Adobe (and other third-party software vendors) are the cause of many problems attributed to Microsoft.
As for this issue, in my case, I am on a closed network, so yeah, no Internet access… I simply want to turn off the warning as it is useless to me and I don’t like seeing it. And yes, I know I can simply hide it from the notification area… call me anal… I want to turn it off.
Hey guys I don’t have the beta release of windows 7 I got it free when I bought my new computer. I installed it and I have the no internet access problem. I can’t find any antivirus programs though. Help.
There is a simple solution to do.
If you do this step by step.
You never will be prompted by network yellow warnings.
Pay attention!
1. Open Kaspersky Internet Security 2010.
2. Go Settings.
3. Select Firewall label
4. Click over Configuration/Settings
5. Now select Networks right next to Filtering Rules.
6. Find out your network adapter, it might be connected if you’ve got only one, and choose “modify”
7. You can assign custom name and important, in Category change to Trusted Network.
You have advanced options too.
This is the easy and fast method. But there is another if the first fails.
1. Now in Firewall Settings, click on Filtering Rules.
2. Look and find down “Add” over Address
3. This step is very important, you need to add a new network service. Give it a name, and add “Local Address”, these addresses must be your default gateway, first and second DNS provided by your ISP you can find it through internet, once added. ACCEPT
This last step can be difficult but is easier than it looks. Your default gateway appears on your local area connection status over details. I Hope you succeed.
Bye
Hi try the following to solve the problem
Solution 1: Testet and working
- Allow access to the websites on Proxy / Firewall / Dansguardian
– ncsi.glbdns.microsoft.com and
– http://www.msftncsi.com on HTTP port 80
These sites are contacted to prove a working internet connection.
Solution 2: Not verfied
Disable Connection Check over GPO. Read more under

Bye
This is our fix for a corporate LAN with an Internet proxy server: -
Run “CMD” as Administrator, then enter
“Netsh winhttp import proxy source=ie”
I’ve had this yellow icon issue since upgrading to windows 7 on 4/03/2010. Microsoft, HP, and my ISP provider could not solve this. Microsoft had me do factory recoveries and upgrading over and over, even microsoft network engineer did clean installation.Don’t do any of those . I had a computer specialist come to my house to solve the problem. His laptop when he set it up to access my home web page showed the same. Only thing we had in common was windows 7. I was trying to also go wireless thinking that would solve it but it still had problems. So betweem my computer specialist and my ISP provider solution is…..MTU VALUE NEEDS TO BE SET LOWER..windows 7 can only go to 1500. MY computer was set to 1492 so when my isp provider lowered it to 1478 PROBLEM SOLVED. That then fixed the gateway. Now I have wireless and lan connections.
I am having this problem, I have completely uninstalled AVG, i have no other anti virus software.. I have tried alot of different settings. I am using windows 7 on sony vaio NW20EF/s
There are various possible causes for the false alarm.
Ironically, in my case the cause was windows firewall itself that caused the “no internet access” flag in spite of all networking functioning properly (otherwise).
If you are within a protected network, one option is to turn off windows firewall. Alternatively, adjusting the allowed programs resolves the problem. Specifically which service/port the “internet access check” is searching for would be a helpful detail, but I did not narrow that down just yet.
Here, in the UK, windows 7 is still turning off the Internet connection with no reason to do so. Also, keep getting a ArcSoft Connect Daemon Has Stopped Working message whenever I start up.
Hello, I had the same problem. If it’s a new pc and you have Norton Internet Protection installed, you must register it first. Try to register Norton, reboot, and the problem is solved. Good luck.
I have Mcafee security center…. there is not option for “link scanner” is it the “real-time scanner” that i have to disable on mine?
What consistently worked for me is this:
1. Open network and sharing center
2. Click on the icon of your current connected network. It could be a house, bench, etc
3. Click on merge or delete network locations
4. At this time, disconnect from your network so you can delete all locations.
5. Delete all locations
6. Reconnect to your network again. You can either ignore homegroup by cancel or choose your preference.
7. You can now see that the disconnected issue has been resolved.
This has worked several times already for me and I just do it when the issue reappears. Typically, networks you’ve logged into from past connections are automatically stored here. When this gets to around 3 or more, thats when the error appears.
Im using a lenovo ideapad y460 with win 7 64 home premium os
I have a similar problem. I have a HP laptop with W7. And I also can’t connect to the internet but my other roommates can. My iphone couldn’t also connect to the wirelles internet. My laptop can connect to the internet on other locations. I already tried every sollution but nothing has worked so far. I disabled my anti virus firmware and my firewall. I unplugged my modem/router a 1000 times,my network connections settings are all correct ,I reinstalled al my drivers, I even reinstalled W7 again, but I still got no connection. Does anyone has sollution already?

! help me please!
Got my version of this problem fixed. I connected to the internet just fine, Network and Sharing center said I had Internet, but the notification Icon had a red X. Turned out that while Cisco VPN client was installed, the network icon would show a red X(I never tried to connect to the VPN while it was installed though) SO, if you are having trouble like this, you could try uninstalling or updating any VPN clients that you have. I only needed it to connect to one of my schools alternate wireless networks so i uninstalled.
