Windows 7: “No Internet Access” with Yellow Warning Icon

24 August 2009 @ 11am

warning-general-2A number of users have reported an issue in which Windows 7 displays a message indicating that there is “no Internet Access,” accompanied by a yellow exclamation point warning sign, despite the fact that Internet access works properly in all applications.

Fixes

Disable link scanning in antivirus/malware software The number one cause of this issue is problematic link scanning functions in various antivirus/malware software packages. Try disabling any link scanning components, then restart and check for Internet access.

For example, you can disable AVG’s link scanner by clicking on the AVG icon in the task bar (lower-right hand corner) then selecting “Link Scanner” and unchecking the “Enable AVG Search-Shield” box.

Look for a similar Web “link scanner” or “web shield” component in your antivirus/malware package and temporarily disable it, then restart your computer and check to see if the problem still exists.

Disable then re-enable antivirus software In other cases, simply disabling then re-enabling antivirus software can resolve this issue.

It seems Windows 7 is plagued with internet connectivity issues. I too suffer from having to restart windows with no internet then uninstalling the network card and using the scan for changes button so that it re installs the driver automatically. One idea that may be the culprit is the disk doctor that’s imbeded in windows. I’m not sure how to remove it and why windows has to have it seeded into the system. Anti-Virus programs use the same update and scan feature. disabling automatic scan seems to help some but not very many. I did install adobe cs3 and after-wards the update box came up and did its update, restarted windows and no more internet. Back to reinstalling the network card works everytime. It could also be that windows 7 can not handle the lamens network sharing for dummy’s. Considering the relase date is only a month away I sure hope they fix this. Why doesn’t Microsoft have a solution. we all tend to use the same 4 or 5 variations of network cards.

Wow Jason… you’re so far off base there with your thinking. Microsoft does not control the anti-virus makers. “Disk doctor” doesn’t exist and even if it did, it wouldn’t be touching the nic settings. Meanwhile, CS3 is made by Adobe, which is one of the worst software producers in the world…

I am behind an ISA proxy server, and I think that is why Windows 7 thinks there is no internet.

Well this carp WIn7 is acting up with some programs disabling the Network Adapter… but the easier “temporary” fix is not to UNINSTALL the Network Adapter but to just “DISABLE”, it and then RE-ENABLE it… this bring the internet back… at least until re-boot.

The other non-solution fix is to uninstall the program the caused the problem in the first place… in my case: Dreamweaver CS3, Acrobat 7, and Suitcase Fusion 2 (font manager)… this really sucks but it works until there is a real permanent fix.

Hear hear… glad to see I’m not the only person who thinks Adobe (and other third-party software vendors) are the cause of many problems attributed to Microsoft.

As for this issue, in my case, I am on a closed network, so yeah, no Internet access… I simply want to turn off the warning as it is useless to me and I don’t like seeing it. And yes, I know I can simply hide it from the notification area… call me anal… I want to turn it off.

There is a simple solution to do.
If you do this step by step.
You never will be prompted by network yellow warnings.
Pay attention!

1. Open Kaspersky Internet Security 2010.
2. Go Settings.
3. Select Firewall label
4. Click over Configuration/Settings
5. Now select Networks right next to Filtering Rules.
6. Find out your network adapter, it might be connected if you’ve got only one, and choose “modify”
7. You can assign custom name and important, in Category change to Trusted Network.
You have advanced options too.

This is the easy and fast method. But there is another if the first fails.

1. Now in Firewall Settings, click on Filtering Rules.
2. Look and find down “Add” over Address
3. This step is very important, you need to add a new network service. Give it a name, and add “Local Address”, these addresses must be your default gateway, first and second DNS provided by your ISP you can find it through internet, once added. ACCEPT

This last step can be difficult but is easier than it looks. Your default gateway appears on your local area connection status over details. I Hope you succeed.

Bye
