Vista SP2 Problems? Uninstall, Run Readiness Tool, Reinstall
A number of Windows Vista SP2 problems can be resolved by uninstalling the service pack, running the Microsoft System Readiness Tool to eliminate inconsistencies and corrupt files, then reinstalling the service pack. If you are experiencing inexplicable issues for which you cannot find a suitable solution after the update, try these steps:
- Uninstall Windows Vista SP2, per Microsoft’s instructions.
- Download and run the Microsoft System Readiness Tool.
- Reinstall the Windows Vista SP2 update via the standalone installer.

I cannot see where anyone has had the problem I have had with Vista 64 SP2. In my business I depend a lot of TIF files as source documents from which I can OCR bits and pieces.
Prior to Vista SP2 the TIF files would open “instantly” either direct or through hyperlink from Word documents. After SP2 even the smallest TIF file would take 30 seconds, almost to the second, to open.
I do not have the patience for that. I saw no solutions anywhere on line. So I uninstalled SP2 and I am back to instant opening TIF files. It is going to take a lot to persuade me to reinstall it.
Can the Microsoft System Readiness Tool help with that problem?

My problem with Vista SP2 … I run DragonNaturallySpeaking10 (from Nuance). I was running just fine and then I installed SP2 on my Vista Home Premium. Dragon stopped running. Got cannot load program message. Nuance said to remove Dragon and reinstall. So I did, but I had to use the Nuance Removal Tool because uninstaller failed. Now I cannot install Dragon. I get a MS 1722 error message, from the installer. I see that msi.dll has been bumped up to 4.5,sed to be 3.1. Any suggestions?
Tool was updated in September.

I have run the Readiness Tool 5 separate times and run Vista SP2 7 times and each time SP2 will not install. None of the ‘suggestions’ that come up in the dialog box after the failure work and none of the ‘solutions’ work.
I even tried to get sp2 with/for IE 7 but the page would not move go past the admin test screen.
I have a messed up OS-it will not retain my display settings, takes 5-7 tries before it shuts down, plus causes instability in games, SP2 does not show up under the Windows Update screen, and the alleged solutions never work.
I tried to install SP2. Took forever to download. I installed it and it got to 3 of 3 69% and sat. I waited and waited and finally went to bed. The next morning the message said that I needed to reinstall windows as an unauthorised update had been perfomed. I ignored the message and closed it as I was unprepared to reinstall and reactivate windows Vista. Everything operates as before but I still get the message to reactivate and I lost my background unitl I put it back.
Is this Microsoft’s cunning plan to get us to migrate to Windows 7?
