Glad I found this but for some of us we are not computer wizards. How do I turn of the encryption of the temp folder and where do I find the temp folder?

Same problem. Tried all listed solutions above including the manual workarounds for the hotfix since my system is XP and the hotfix doesn’t work on XP. Still no luck.
Pretty pathetic when Microsoft can’t even install their own products on their OS.

*SOLVED*

I use Windows Vista encryption on my Users folder (and thereby also the “Users/{username}/AppData/Local/Temp” folder). When I turned OFF the encryption of the “Temp” folder the install went through smoothly.

It has been the same issue with the new Skype version. The error must lie in the encryption, and not in the installer.

Now, if only there were a way to let Microsoft know what the problem is without having to pay for sending them an email. Bah! I don’t even bother trying..

I get the same exact error. It does not work through Windows Update nor when downloaded manually. I tried contacting Microsoft support to let them know, but I ended up in a page where they asked me for money for giving me support. Gee thanks Microsoft.. Have a nice day too..

I have had the same problems in getting Office 2007 SP2 to install. Updated the Windows updater. No effect. Plenty of room on hard drive. All prior updates were installed. Tried direct from Windows update and by downloading the installation package. Both failed: “Installation of this package failed”. No other error message.

Ohh what a nightmare this was!!! Multiple install failures..I searched for any information and found a small *patch* file thingy, and after putting that on my server it downloaded and installed fine.
However
after reboot (which took forever) my system was sooooo slow and sluggish:
the CPU maxed out…multiple erros in the event log…YIKES!!!!
For some very odd reason the SQL 2005 service-which worked flawlessly BEFORE the Service Pack, now sucked 100% of my CPU-never went lower that 87% but mostly stayed maxed. Lost remote user conncectivity…sooo many problems.
I played with it for a few hours than grew so disgusted I uninstalled the *patch*, the Service Pack, anything thing else I installed within that 2 hour window

and

just for good luck, the SQL Server Standard 2005

Now my system works just like she always has:
No more sluggish behavior and frustratingly long log on/off times
No more CPU hog
No more event log filling up with multiple errors
Users connect remotely

my server? She is happy :0)
I am happy
The users are happy

Be very very carefull about this Service Pack-it may be the installer (was some talk about that) or it may just be *bad* code-whatever, keep in mind that it has the potential to be a

That hotfix is only for server 2003.

I solved the issue! When you extract the SP2 package and run the separate .MSP, you’ll get an 1718 Error: file was rejected by digital signature policy. In order to fix this you need to install the following MS hotfix:

After the hotfix install the SP2 install runs fine!
